About My Art Work

I've always LOVED arts, crafts and anything to do with painting. I grew up doing some type of craft almost daily and continued this throughout my adult life with my kids and husband. My parents were really into photography and always had the latest and greatest cameras and printing equipment. I had a point and shoot camera. That was more my style-simple.

I've wanted to do a recipe website for about a decade. What held me back? Taking pictures of my food. To learn photoshop was definitely on the bottom of my list of desires. During the COVID shutdown, my husband told me my recipes were too good not to share with the rest of the world. He said I needed to figure out a way to share them despite my dislike for taking pictures. He encouraged me to start doing something. I loved painting. Maybe I would try that? I found out quickly that I was not a fine artist. I began exploring and tried to find a style that was different from what others were doing. My first picture was mushroom cream cheese wontons. I experimented and took out the wonton skins and started painting on them as if they were mountains. I then added cream cheese to the top as if it were snow. It was turning out pretty cool! Maybe I was onto something? I continued to paint different recipes by using different colors, patterns, themes and incorporated 1-2 ingredients of the recipe into the picture.  I then added different objects and designs and incorporated them into the painting.  It seemed to be working  and I felt they looked pretty cool. I then started to use not only acrylic paint but chalk, posca pens, and whatever else I could think of. Being a chef, I decided to start making my own non toxic paints by using natural paint dyes for color.  I have 6 boards and canvases that I reuse by repainting over to avoid waste. I get pretty cool background textures by doing this.

How do I take my pictures? My iphone 10. It's that simple. I don't have any fancy apps to edit them or use any filters. I use a framing app and even that is pretty simple. I love seeing how much my style has changed since I first started. I don't plan them out, I just sit down and let things flow. This is how I cook as well. It's kind-of like it was meant to be. I hope you like them as much as I do.
